I added a "Name" field under a "Personal Information" Tab. Is there anything else people would like to have in a Profile. All information is optional to enter.
That is what this thread is about. If you go look at your profile you will currently see a place to insert your name and location. If you have other things you want added to the profile, just let me know and I'll add it.
It would be cool if people HAD to put in their real name. Half the time, I don't know who I'm talking to, and I don't generally like to ask every person who they are in the threads.
Like, I totally understand that folks like having wacky internet handles and all, but I gotta say that I *do* find it unnerving to be in conversations every once and a while with people who are named, like, "Zozy251" who may or may not be someone I actually know. And as no one ever signs their posts with their names, and I don't think anyone has an actual name in their profile, I'm always stuck with "Yeah, uh, who are you?" to someone who I might have actually already known for 15 years.
Maybe we could institute a "Make sure to put your real name in your profile!" rule. Yeah, if someone wants to be a jerk, they can still show up and use all fake names and be a jerk and all, but assuming that everyone is basically on the same page of "let's all be civil" and that the vast majority of the time when people have a funny handle and no actual name it just doesn't really occur to them to clarify who they are, I think that would be a reasonable solution.
Profiles are already set up such that there are fields for your name, your e-mail, and stuff like that. How about everyone please go and, if nothing else, add your real name to your profile (go to your profile, click "edit", click "personal information" add your real name, hit "save". Boom. You are done.) and make everyone else's life easier :-)
That doesn't make anything work better. I'm never a big fan of people hiding behind anonymity. If you don't want to say what you want to say when people know who you are, you shouldn't be saying it in the first place.

Despite what some people have thought (and occasionally said), I NEVER say anything online that I wouldn't say in person, and anyone that does is worthy of a beatdown (where I live, if someone catches one saying something behind their back and don't have the stones to repeat it, then one WILL get a beatdown)
Thanks for doing that.
Thanks for doing that. Perhaps a "Location" field as well?
Done.
Done.
Admin Issues
Say, did we ever get those Admin issues worked out? And if so, how could we add fields to profiles to flesh them out a bit more?
I can add any feild you want.

SFBOL Handle?
I'm thinking that there should also be an SFBOL handle field as well.
Added it
along with a field from and email suggestion to have a place to enter various SFB/SFBOL accomplishments.
Most Excellent
Thanks!

Yes I agree as well.
I think it wasn't ever instituted as a rule because it's the rule on the ADB board, and we wouldn't want to be anything like that board.
Hidden names
Maybe some people are regular posters on both boards and while diplomatic on one, are more open with their opinions on the other...
Yeah,
