Lyran vessels

I've been playing the Lyran CA quite a bit lately, probably 5 out of the last 6 games. I'm really developing a liking for this ship. Now the one I'm playing with has our house rules modifications so the disruptors have been replaced with the particle cannon. This has been working out very well. It isn't quite as powerful as a disruptor, and it doesn't hit as well as a UIM disruptor, but being able to fire it twice (with a 12 impulse delay) makes up for it in some ways. And being able to fire it in OL mode for 3 points instead of 4 for the disruptor is of benefit as well. And I very much like the 5 point capacitor.

Mainly I've played the Kzinti CA so I've been using the ESG's at R0 for drone defense (the Kzinti is a house rule version that has the disruptors replaced with hyperdrones). I alternate the ESG's, one per turn at maximum (if I have the power available). So I haven't used the ESG as a ram...at least not yet.

Keeping this in mind, any Lyran's out there that could share some of their tips for the Lyran CA? I'd appreciate it.

Something struck me as odd

Something struck me as odd tonight concerning the ESG, it doesn't affect plasma. Yet plasma is matter (on the brink of turning to total energy) and ESG fields affect matter i.e. drones, shuttles, ships, asteroids etc.

Seems like an ESG would do at least 'some' damage to a plasma...

*shrug*

You can't think of things like that. If you do, the way ESGs interact with Hellbores couldn't be explained. Nor could the requirement that ESG fields not intersect.

Simplest to say "it just is" when considering how things work in relation to the ESG.

I don't know...I feel a

I don't know...I feel a possible 'tweak' coming on :)

heh heh. Well, then you'll

heh heh. Well, then you'll be rewriting all of the ESGs. I know you like the variable differences in tech, so that might be right up your alley.

And......;) If energy

And......;)

If energy 'things' pass through an ESG without damaging it, such as phasers, photons, disruptors etc....then why would it smack and damage a shield which is energy and not matter? It should pass right through the shield facing and smack the ship itself causing internals. Which would make the Lyran the most feared ship in the game, which is okay as I really like the ship (wink).

Yeah, I know, game balance would be messed up. Just saying....:)

Seriously though, I might

Seriously though, I might mess around with the concept that an ESG does at least some damage to a plasma. Perhaps like the phaser doing 2 to 1.

Maybe, just thinking about it a bit.
