After making a couple of posts in another thread regarding counter sheets and TNG stuff I did some searches around the net. I found some stuff for anyone that may be interested.
TNG counter sheets - these were pretty nice and would fit one of the larger hex maps.

Don Miller has a page on how to make the small square counters. He has a blank sheet that can be copied to paint. It is pretty easy. The simple way is to put an SSD on paint, 'fill' (using the paint can) the background the color you want then 'fill' the SSD with the color you want, put a select box around it and resize it to '7'. Then on a second paint page that has the blank counter sheet fill in the background color and then copy/paste from the first paint page.

He has a ton of SSD's, many of which could be considered TNG

For example, here is the TMP style Enterprise

Or the Excelsior

Or Galaxy class

Or whatever you want really. If you don't like some of the features then copy/paste to paint and adjust it yourself. Again, this is for anyone that may be interested and since I came across it I figured I'd toss it out there. :)
TNG can be done
and I've liked some of what I've seen from Don Miller and others, but TNG will never become an official part of SFB. I mean NEVER.
All things being equal, I'm sure I wouldn't want to see anything from TNG filtered through the 20th century, pro-military, hoo-rah eyes of SVC.
One thing about TNG is that the ships are so damn big; 1701-D should have a movement cost of 8. So maybe one solution might be in the "fleet scale" of Federation Commander... Not that I play that system, bit it might make the SSD more manageable
I wouldn't anticipate any TMP
I wouldn't anticipate any TMP or TNG from ADB due to their license on TOS. And even if they were to acquire the rights to do TMP era or TNG, I could see it being a major undertaking due to the different races added such as Cardassians, Ferrengi, Borg etc. But then, if done very well it could be the X2 tie in and really create a new fan base as well as something new for the original fan base. Again, I don't foresee it happening, but that doesn't stop people (such as Don Miller) and others from creating it for their own use.
I don't mind the pro-military view, it is a war game after all.
In view of movement cost, Don Miller has his TNG Galaxy class cruiser as a 1 1/2 movement. I think that is a bit low as it has around 88 warp power give-or-take and 120 total. I'd say perhaps a 3 movement if you're going to have that much power and bump the warp up to an even 90. That still gives you 30 for whatever plus the batteries.
It would take some effort to balance things, but again it is doable for those willing to put in the effort. And making the counters is easy.
Yeah, Don's stuff was fun and
Yeah, Don's stuff was fun and interesting, I toyed with it years ago... interesting, but not really balanced.
